Machine tools for ball machining
SAFOP ball machining tools are designed to deliver high-quality production, ensuring precision and accuracy of the spherical geometry. This type of machine tool is used in the oil industry.
Main features
Productivity
Productivity is very high, as the machine is a CNC machining center designed for its intended use.
Flexibility
By entering simple information into the CNC, the machine adapts to any design changes of the workpiece. That enables the machine to produce various shapes and, when the workpiece material changes, store and apply new working parameters without limitations through the use of subprograms.
Ergonomics
The machine’s basic design places great importance on ergonomics, respecting the operator–machine relationship by ensuring:
- loading and unloading operations take place through the sliding door of the machine guard without interference.
- the work area is completely enclosed during operation by a special guard.
- the chip removal, coolant, and coolant filtration systems are fully controlled and coordinated via PLC/CNC.
Advanced design
- Robust structure: designed to reduce vibrations during machining, ensuring dimensional accuracy.
- Precise axial control system: ensures perfect spherical geometry.
The machine can be equipped with an automatic tool changer and a corresponding tool magazine. Together with the hydraulic clamping system, the entire tool change cycle is performed automatically. All units, including the beds, carriage, driving headstock, tailstock, and grinding unit, are made of cast iron with stress-relieving treatment to ensure the required structural integrity.

Ball Matic series
This type of machine tool can machine workpieces ranging from 2 to 64 inches in size and made from a variety of materials, from steel alloys to specialized grades used in high-performance valves. The Ball Matic series is designed to perform either grinding operations only or both turning and grinding operations on the same machine, thereby reducing cycle times and increasing productivity.

For grinding operations, the machine is equipped with specially designed cup wheels engineered for machining of spherical surfaces. The turning unit consists of a tool post carriage and a tool holder with a fitting for tool insertion. The carriage guides employ hydrostatic technology, delivering the required machining accuracy and surface finish through reduced friction, increased wear resistance, excellent vibration damping, and high thermal stability. Moreover, this technology requires low maintenance, thereby minimizing downtime.
